Turning off the Heater in the Day Saves on Energy Costs
This is a very complicated myth, and exactly how it might impact you and your family will depend on your home. In general, turning off the heater during the day could end up costing you big on your energy bill. This is because it takes more energy for your system to raise the temperature of your home than it does for it to maintain that temperature. That is to say, it could cost less to keep your home at 70 degrees all day, than it would for it to be drop from 70 to 50, than brought back to 70 at night time.
Ceiling Fans are Just for Summertime
Wrong! Ceiling fans are not just for staying cool in the summer. They can actually help you save money and stay warm during the winter as well. Most modern ceiling fans will have a button that will cause them to rotate clockwise. This is the opposite of the direction it usually rotates in. This will cause the ceiling fan to push warm air back down into the room, rather than letting it escape out through the lofty heights of your house. This little trick could make a difference almost immediately.
