Adjusting the Sink Stopper in Your Drain

The bathroom sink stopper is a crucial components to facilitating plumbing.  However, over time, the sink stopper will inevitably become maladjusted causing the sink to lose water when you want it to hold water. But with proper sink stopper maintenance you can surely ensure you sink will be properly draining in no time.

Sink Stopper Maintenance

There are two reasons that sink stoppers deteriorate: either alignment, or its clogged with hair or some other kind of sludge. Many people will attempt to unclog the drain by using bleach or some other cleaning solution. But, there is an easier way to remedy this problem. If you completely replace the stopper, both issues will be solved. All you need is a pair of adjustable pliers and a cleaning brush.

Making the Repair

As a disclaimer, this is intended to be a general guide rather than a step by step instruction. First off, crawl under the sink and look for a nut that sticks out that back of the drain plumbing. Use pliers to loosen the nut and remove the rod from the pipe. Next, you want to clear off the accumulated gunk from your stopper. Take a brush and clean out all the sludge that has accumulated around your drain pipe. Finally you want to put the stopper back together. Connect the new stopper back to your drain and then run a pipe through to the hole in the bottom of the stopper. Once everything is in place tighten up the nut, and then run the water to make sure your faucet works.
