Air Conditioner Blowing Warm Air?

April 19, 2019

It’s not very often you need warm air blowing through your vents in Phoenix or without your control in the middle of April for that matter. If this is happening, it could be caused by a few simple issues that you can correct on your own. Or, it could be a more complicated issue. Here are a few ways to begin troubleshooting starting with the easy ones.

Thermostat Setting

This should be the very first thing you check when you notice warm air blowing when it shouldn’t be. Make sure your system is set to “cool,” and your fan switched to “auto.” Also, make sure the temperature is set at least five degrees below the current temperature.

Dirty Air Filter

This one is as easy as checking your thermostat. Maintaining a clean air filter is vital to the health of your HVAC system. The air filter protects the inner workings of your system from dust, dirt, and debris. It also promotes proper airflow. In a place like Phoenix where it’s warm and dry, you should be checking this filter once a month.

Low Refrigerant Leak

Low refrigerant is another common cause for an air conditioner to blow warm air. Losing refrigerant means you’re losing the cooling aspect of your air conditioner. Keep in mind that you’ll need a professional to figure out this problem; your air conditioner doesn’t consume refrigerant like your car consumes gas. So, if you’re low, it most likely means you have a leak. Be sure to have an expert technician from Parker & Sons come out and fix your air conditioner before attempting to add more to the system.

Leaky Air Ducts

Another possibility is that you could have a leak in the air ducts that run throughout your home. If so, cool air could be escaping and not fully circulating through your system. The ducts in your home are hidden in the walls, attic, or basement, it may be best to have a professional inspect them.
