Home Remodeling: Countertops 101 - Parker & Sons

Maybe you’re not in the market to buy a new house, but are you looking to update your home in some sort of way? Whether you’re looking to redo the kitchen, a bar, or anything kind of surface you use on a daily basis, look no further! We’ve taken some time to go over some of the most popular stone countertops to make the decision of remodeling easy and stress-free. Here is some of the most important information when it comes to all of the different stone countertops on the market…

  • Polished Granite Countertop: This type of stone countertop is by far the most popular in modern households. Not only does it match a wide variety of cabinets and cupboards, it’s extremely durable and will last for many, many years. Another reason most people tend to have polished granite is that it provides a solid, stable surface for any food prep for all of the in-home chefs out there. Be mindful that unlike some other stone countertops, polished granites requires a regular sealing on an annual basis to keep the stone intact.
  • Quartz Countertop: Quartz, despite being on the expensive side for some, is one of the most practical stone countertops on the market. Not only does it look great and match nearly every household, but its scratch, heat, acid, and impact resistant. The non-porous stone does not need to be sealed like its granite counterpart, making it a great choice for people who tend to make messes, or people who have children and large families who frequently use the kitchen.

Butcher Block-Style Wood Countertop: This is without a doubt one of the most “homey” looking countertops with its cottage-inspired look. When they are properly sealed, they are the most sanitary option when it comes to cleanliness. You can even prepare raw meats on the surface while cooking! Believe it or not, these types of countertops are also heat-resistant, meaning that you won’t have to worry about hot pots or pans burning and ruining the surface.
