Fixing the Leaks you Never Notice (Part Two) - Parker & Sons

Apparently the month of June is Leak Month here at Parker & Sons. We are locating and addressing and fixing leaks in a fast, effective, and phenomenal matter. Over the last few blogs, we have been talking about a sneaky breed of leaks that can often go unnoticed for months at a time. These types of leaks don’t cause a lot of problems if there is just one or two of them. However, if there are several throughout your home, you could be wasting almost a gallon of water a day! And all that water is leaking out somewhere into your home, which can’t be good. Let’s find a few more leaks.

  1. Drain Leaks

You might be thinking to yourself, wait, drains can leak?!? Isn’t water supposed to pass through the drain?Well, yes it is! Very good. It sounds like you are practically a plumber yourself. But drains can actually leak. And a leaky drain can result in massive water loss simply because so much water passes through the drain. With a drain leak, water gets between the metal exterior of the drain and the location in which it is attached to the bathtub or shower. These leaks often lead to mold and mildew growth.

If you believe you have a drain leak, there are a few ways you can go about fixing it. Unscrew the drain flange to lift it out of the base of the bathtub or shower. There should be a rubber gasket under the drain hole. Remove that as well. Thoroughly clean both items. Lightly apply caulking to be base before replacing the drain unit. Next, replace the rubber gasket and the drain. Tighten the seal. Any leak around the drain should now be fixed! Congratulations!
