Fall Cleaning

All households adhere to different cleaning schedules. Some homes diligently tidy things up every week, while others let months go before a cleaning. A family or two on your block may follow the philosophy that cleaning is only needed once a year. They likely bring out the mop and bucket just during spring time. This may be below the bare minimum for home cleanliness. Add fall cleaning to the agenda as a way to keep your home in tip-top shape.

Indoor Emphasis

Pay close attention to your highly trafficked living spaces. Start by deep cleaning bathrooms. This means scrubbing out toilets, sinks, and showers. With a little elbow grease, and the proper cleaning solutions, your bathroom will soon be shinning like new. Now you can turn your eye to some of the more difficult to clean areas of your home. Try dusting behind the refrigerator, the washer and the dryer. If you have a chimney, this may be a good time to clean it out as well! While you are looking up, take some time to test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

A Seasonal Approach

Winter is coming. Well, at least for most of the country. Phoenicians may not have to face some of the worst rigors of winter, but others would do best to prepare themselves. Pool owners in cold weather states should drain their pools and cover them for the winter. This is also a good time to disconnect and drain the garden hose. If water freezes in the hose, it will expand, and the hose could explode! While homeowners are outside, they should check on the condition of weather stripping and caulking around doors and windows. The last thing they want is to have precious heat slipping out of their home during the coldest months of winter.
