Welcome back to the Parker & Sons blog. Today, we will be hitting on another very common plumbing problem. In fact, this is probably THE MOST COMMON plumbing problem. Yup, you guessed it right – the clogged toilet. Everyone has clogged a toilet at some point in their life. Usually, clogs are minor, and can be taken care of without the involvement of a professional plumber. Sometimes, it can be more serious, like when the little one sends some strange foreign object adventuring down the drain. Today, we will offer you a few tips for easily unclogging a toilet.
First Move – Plunge!!
You first move when dealing with a clogged toilet should always be to reach for the plunger. Now, as a suggestion, your next step should be to lay out some paper towels or newspaper on the floor just in case things get messy. It is also important to use a high-quality rubber plunger. A cheapo model may not get the job done. Submerge the plunger in the water and push it firmly over the hole. Push down, then pull up sharply. Start off slow. It may take time to bust the clog, so be patient.
Use a Drain Cleaner
If plunging did not get the job done, it is time to bring out the big guns. You can opt to use a commercial enzyme waste removal drain cleaning product or a homemade concoction. If using a commercial product, simply follow the directions provided by the manufacturer. If you would prefer to use a homemade cleaner, simply pour half-gallon of warm water down the drain, followed by 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of white vinegar. Things are going to get fizzy! Follow that with another half-gallon of warm water. Let is sit overnight. In the morning, go back to work with the plunger.
