7 Warning Signs of Bad Electrical Wiring (Part One)

  1. Sparks

Your home electrical system should NEVER ever be producing live sparks. Not only are they a massive fire hazard, they could be a sign of a more major electrical problem. If your circuit breaker or fuse box are sparking, call an electrician immediately. Let them know it may be an emergency issue. If an appliance sparks, the issue could be with an individual outlet or with the appliance itself. You may consider contacting an appliance repairman if this is the case.

Occasionally, outlet might get warm to the touch, but if they ever get HOT, that could be a problem. Essentially, electricity is just energy. When your electrical system is working properly, the energy is going exactly where you want to send it. If it is malfunctioning, that energy could be producing heat in places you don’t want it. This is a fire hazard. Call an electrician immediately.

  1. Fickle Breakers

You probably know you have circuit breakers in your home, and maybe you even know where they are, but do you know what they do? Most people don’t. Circuit breakers are actually designed to help protect your home from fires. When the circuit beings to overload by exceeding a specific number of amps, the breaker trips and is disabled. Circuit breakers can go bad over time. If you have a breaker that is constantly tripping, it may need to be replaced. Consider contacting a professional electrician.
